Two firsts for Brentwood Elementary School teams

Two Brentwood Elementary School teams garnered first place in their respective divisions at the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament held at Heritage High School in late March.

The two teams, all fifth-graders, competed against students from across California, becoming the first teams from Brentwood Union School District ever to move on to the creative problem solving competition's world finals. This year's world finals will be held at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan May 27-30.

The team members competing in the "Food Court" problem, coached by Bart Schneider, included Jessica McCurdy and Michelle Valadez, are Casey Schneider, Will McCurdy, Tyler Valadez, Sam Goldman, Jack Mitchener, Emily Gonzalez and Gillian Gash.

The other top winner, the "Nature Trailer" team, included Veronika Wallace, Allyson Russell, Hannah Eelsing, Cole Zanarini, Cody Rohrbacker and Nathan Barsanti, with Susan Wallace and Lynelle Russell as coaches.
