By Susan Tuz
Seventh-grade students from Sherman School captured first place April 3 in their division at the Odyssey of the Mind state finals at Bethel Middle School.

The Sherman youths thus advance to the world finals to be held May 26-29 at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich.

The local team will compete with 25 American and international teams.

The Sherman team had the top score April 3 of 337.07 out of a possible 350 points.

They depicted the discovery of the Easter Island statues by Dutch navigator Jakob Roggeveen on Easter Sunday in 1772.

They also offered an imagined discovery of the ruins of the iconic Hollywood sign in the year 3703.
