Solving the World's Problems

Perhaps they are not solving the problems of the entire world, but they are at least taking on NC Odyssey of the Mind Northern Region's problems.

On March 14, a team of seven sixth and seventh grade students from Millennium Charter Academy (MCA) competed against middle school teams from over a dozen other northern counties in North Carolina in a competition to solve spontaneous and long-term problems.

In preparation for the event, this team worked cooperatively to solve Earth Trek where they were asked to create a vehicle that would visit four team-created environments. The team worked to create a skit that would allow judges to view their accomplishments.

Millennium's team placed second in Division II Earth Trek for the Northern Region. The team was invited to compete at the State level on April 4. This is the first year MCA has competed in this event.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. They take their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
