Six out of 11 academic teams from the Coachella Valley qualified for the World Finals of the Odyssey of the Mind competition in Michigan.

On March 31, teams from Washington Charter School, Palm Desert Middle School, Palm Desert High School, John Glenn Middle School, Palm Springs High School and Marywood-Palm Valley School competed in the Odyssey of the Mind state tournament in Visalia.

The youngest students that participated where 10 years old.

"How they come up with the solutions to these problems is just incredible," said Allan Lehmann, principal of Washington Charter School. "The valley should be very proud of these students."

Nine teams ranked in the top three in different questions and divisions.

The state will send a total of 30 teams to the finals in May.
