OMER's Award Winners Rolla Middle School Individual OMER's Award -- Teresa Jones and Missy Dickey Problem 1 The Great Parade Division 2 Rolla, Missouri Nomination: The makers of Premier Portraits would like to recognize two outstanding coaches who showed the true spirit of Odyssey of the Mind. When our booth became swamped with team portraits, two Missouri coaches volunteered to help sort and process the packets. They stayed at our booth for several hours helping us catch up, then they refused to accept any monetary gratuity. Baron Collier High School Team OMER's Award Problem 4 Geometry Structure Division 3 Naples, Florida Nomination: This team very graciously gave up their spot to compete at World Finals, after coming in first place at states, because they were all graduating and have been to Worlds before. They wanted another team to have the same awesome experience they had. As if that was not enough, 2 days before we were to leave for Iowa the team sent us a good luck note with a check to be used toward our expenses. They had funds left over and passed them along to us! They acted in the true spirit of Odyssey. Saint Michael Lutheran Individual OMER's Award -- Norm Hill, the Prop Man Problem 3 Ancient Egypt Division 2 Fort Myers, Florida Nomination: We arrived from Ft. Myers, Florida and our props were not in the prop room for our team problem. We called Norm and he went out of his way walking us to the other prop sites to locate them. Once found we could not move them to the new site ourselves. We called Norm again. He arranged a 6:45 a.m. pick up to move our props and then called us to be sure we were ok. We were a team in major panic made with no props. Norm was one many coordinating props for 800 teams. He was so kind, caring, concerned and NEVER had an ounce of frustration or aggravation. In 2003, Norm delivered approximately 750 containers and over 1500 this year. Individual OMER's Award -- Alan Strohmaier, Iowa Association Director Nomination: Alan setup a website for local information and travel; volunteered to arrange the flying pigs, a group of shuttled officials to campus from the airport. Alan went to great lengths to secure necessary permits and various paperwork to enable COU and Odyssey World to raise money which will enhance scholarships, travel grants and local association projects. His resourcefulness even extended to coordinating travel needs for international teams. | Ranatra Fusca Award Winners | |
