World Finals Hightlights

The Odyssey of the Mind 2008 Spirit Award Recipient is Oog Hwang for establishing Korea Odyssey of the Mind as a thriving International Association. He uses his own creativity as an inventor to give back to society by funding Korea Odyssey. This gives countless students the opportunity to express and explore their own creative visions.
The 2008 Creativity Award Goes to Discovery -- Through international charity work and through the creativity of its programming, the company enhances lives around the world by encouraging creative thought. Discovery representative Paul Gasek (Pictured left) accepted the award on behalf of Discovery.

OMER's Award Recipients
  • Forest Hills Central HS, Grand Rapids, MI -- For applying what they learned through OotM to a real-life issue. The team became pen pals with a village in Africa and helped in many ways including donating food.
  • Myers Park Platinum, Charlotte, NC -- For showing real Odyssey spirit and sportsmanship by moving opposing team props away from a flooded storage area thereby saving their solution.
  • Burton MS, Porterville, CA -- For taking on a special project that helped a fellow student. They designed and built a prosthetic arm for Matt Lane who traveled to WF in order to present the team with the award during Opening Ceremonies.

Correction: Due to a scoring error Monroe-Woodbury High School was not awarded the proper place at WF. They were actually 2nd place in DinoStories Div. 3. Congratulations to: Alden Burke, Devon Colligan, Dennis Dunne, Brian Flannery, Nicole Hoss, Jillian Mazzola, Christine Somers.
