World Finals Highlights

Each year the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals gets bigger and better. During the Awards Ceremony Dr. Sam said, "This has been the best World Finals yet!" Here are some highlights:

  • The University of Maryland once again proved to be a welcoming host. This was the seventh World Finals held there.

  • There was also another record-breaking year for attendance with 844 teams from 31 U.S. states and 12 other countries. Another reason World Finals was so successful was because of its dedicated 440 OotM volunteers.

  • China had the most championship teams with five. Georgia and Singapore each had three, Poland and Vermont had two. Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, New York, and Virginia each had one championship team. Congratulations to every team.

  • NASA gave students a chance to learn even more about earth sciences with popular daily classroom activities. Participants were taught interesting lessons from a NASA scientist and took part in fun hands-on activities.

  • The Burton Middle School team won a special OMER's award for generously designing an artificial limb for a fellow classmate, it also gave daily presentations about the project.
