2005 - 2006 Summer Newsletter
World Finals is three days of creativity, camaraderie, and competition. A
record number of WF participants took over Iowa State University campus
in May to participate in the highly energized Odyssey of the Mind event.
Each team, volunteer, and official had an important role in making World Finals such
a great success. Here are a few highlights:
- 787 teams from the U.S. and 13 other countries competed.
- Pennsylvania and Shanghai tied with four World Champion teams; Georgia and Michigan each had two; and Arizona, Delaware, Maine, North Carolina, Singapore, Texas, and Virginia each had one first place team.
- Michigan also won two out of five total Ranatra Fusca Awards.
- Nearly one million pins were traded.
- Hong Kong, China and South Korea each traveled 15 time zones in order to reach WF. Mainland China and Singapore were next with 14.
- NASA gave participants the chance to see what it¡¦s like to be inside of a spacesuit. Then they took their picture and gave it to them so they can always remember the experience.
