World Finals Highlights
t may have been the best World Finals
ever. At Iowa State University, May
28-31, the weather was perfect, everything ran like clockwork, and the team
presentations were superb. We thank
every team, coach and official who
helped to make the event great!

645 teams competed, representing
31 U.S. states and the countries of
Canada, Germany, Hungary,
Poland, Singapore and Uzbekistan.

North Carolina took home the most
first-place trophies with five overall;
New York and Poland each claimed
three; Michigan, Oklahoma and
Pennsylvania claimed two; and Texas
and Virginia took home one apiece.

120 graduates participated in the
special Graduation Ceremony.

of NASA gave 10 standing-room-only E-theatre presentations of satellite imagery of the Earth.

We’re proud to have presented
the Odyssey of the Mind
Creativity Award to Peter
Yarrow and Operation
Respect. Peter, of the folk trio
Peter, Paul and Mary, started
Operation Respect as a way to
bring the lessons of tolerance
and respect for others into the
classroom. The organization
disseminates its “Don’t Laugh
At Me” curriculum to schools
across America free of charge.

This year's Odyssey of the
Mind Spirit Award went to
Angela Wilkerson -- more
commonly known as OMER's
Best Friend -- for her work in
the Odyssey of the Mind associations
of Tennessee,
Georgia, and North and South Carolina.
