Aboard the USS Mucus submarine

Rachel Checchia's team of students recently took first place in the regional competition for their category, in the Odyssey of the Mind competition.

This creative team of students from Pacetti Bay Middle School took a trip through the human body aboard the USS FLEM. They met up with the Phlem Ranger soldiers, Funky White Cells and Justin Fever rocking out with Pelvis Presley.

Their trip was inspired by the problem they had to collectively solve to compete in the Regionals in Odyssey of the Mind. Odyssey is an international educational program that reviews the team's creative solutions to a specifically defined problem. The team, led by Rachel Checchia, presented a humorous performance where an item changed form three times throughout the eight-minute skit, yet returned to its original form in the final scene.

Their original nose spray bottle to soothe a sick baby became their vehicle throughout her body when inhaled, and the adventure began.

The kids could pick any venue and scenes, but Odyssey requires the students to write the script, make the sets and costumes and come up with the dialogue all on their own without any adult direct suggestions.

The students will be hosting fundraisers to help take them to state competition in April, where they will present their original song and dance, "We all Live in a Mucus Submarine!"
