Tewksbury's Odyssey team takes first place at regionals
TEWKSBURY TWP. -- Old Turnpike Schoolís Odyssey of the Mind team received a perfect score and was awarded first place at the regional competition on Saturday, March 5. This automatically advances them to the state competition in April.
Team members Connor Uzzo, Michael Fabiano, Andrew Fabiano, Nicholas Ross, Ethan Tyler, Ben Sernas, and Chris Sernas impressed the judges and the audience with their solution for the "vehicle" problem. The team was challenged to build a mouse trap powered vehicle that can complete six different tasks within eight minutes, while traveling on a course.
The tasks that the vehicle had to attempt were to deliver something, raise a flag, hit and free a target, the Lucky 13 bullís eye, and two team created original tasks.
The team began working on this problem in October using primarily recycled materials and a restricted budget.
The Tewksbury Education Foundation (TEF) is sponsoring the team as it advances to the World Finalís.
Odyssey of the Mind is a worldwide organization that promotes creative thinking and original problem solving from students in kindergarten through college years. The students solve long term problems with no adult assistance and learn the importance of teamwork, creativity, and dedication.
