Local Odyssey of the Mind teams attend state competition

Teams from local schools will be competing today in the Odyssey of the Mind scholastic problem-solving competition at the state tournament at Binghamton University.

The 16 teams were allowed to refine their skit props in the time between regionals and states, but no other changes to their presentations were allowed.

Fifteen of these teams won first place at the regional tournament and one won second place, but was selected to go on to states based on a New York State Odyssey of the Mind Association "lottery" that rotates across the state, said Tony Abbatiello, regional director for Odyssey of the Mind and director of instructional support services at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.

Once at states, New York state teams that win first or second for their problem question in their division are eligible to go on to the world tournament, which will run from May 26 to 29 at Michigan State University. If a single team member gets a Ranatra Fusca creativity award in states, the whole team can go on to worlds - even if the team is in third place or below.
