Rockford team takes first place in state finals for Odyssey of the Mind

By Matt Vande Bunte
CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP -- Rockford students won first place in five of 15 divisions at the Odyssey of the Mind state finals Saturday, while teams from other area schools topped the rankings in six more categories.

More than 130 teams who qualified in regional events earlier this year competed in the creative problem-solving contest at Davenport University. The top performers in elementary, middle school and high school divisions of five separate problems are eligible for the world finals May 26-29 at Michigan State University.

First-place winners included five teams from Rockford, three from Forest Hills, two from St. John Vianney in Wyoming and one from Holland Christian High School.

Overall, Forest Hills qualified the most teams for the world finals with eight. Other schools with teams advancing are Rockford (six teams), Holland Christian (two teams), St. John Vianney (two teams), Grandville (one), Greenville (one) and Kenowa Hills (one). See full scores at miodyssey.com.
