Canterbury teams advance to state 'Odyssey' contest

By news-press.com
March 13, 2008

Two teams from Canterbury's Middle School won the right to compete at the state Odyssey of the Mind competition.

The teams placed first and second at the regional competition and are headed for Orlando on April 4-5 in hopes of securing a berth at the national championship to be held at the University of Maryland in May.

Odyssey of the Mind coach Cindy Baker said the students spent countless hours preparing for the regional competition and will continue their efforts until they leave for Orlando.

"Odyssey of the Mind is an excellent opportunity for our students to put into practice what Canterbury has taught them throughout their years -- to think outside of the box," Baker said. "The judges were impressed with the Road Rally team when they were able to not only drive their car forward, but to also back it up by switching the cables on the negative and positive terminals which they learned how to do in their science class. The DinoStories team was complimented on how unique they portrayed the extinction of dinosaurs."
