Thousands Pack BU Campus for 'Odyssey'

3/29/2008
4,000: That was about how many students, coaches and parents that were on Binghamton University's campus today for the Odyssey of the Mind Finals. And that number was much easier to figure out than some of the problems these kids were dealing with.

The Tee Structure competition was just one of many exercises teams of students had to solve. In this particular problem, students competed to see whose balsa wood structure could support the most weight.

"The weight has to be less than 18 grams, which is quite light, and I think our biggest weight today was around 526 pounds," said Charlie Kielsel, an Odyssey of the Mind coordinator.

There were 220 teams made up of elementary, middle and high school students and there were seven students per team. Winners from the competition will attend the 2008 Odyssey of the Mind Finals at the University of Maryland in May.
